Listen on Coda
Bread and Circus, a Tucson outfit, delivered roots rock infused with Americana, country, and cowpunk on Spare Me Over, the band's debut CD from 2007. John Axtell, singer, guitarist, audio engineer, and owner of Signalhouse Recording studio, assembled the lineup after earlier stints in Medicine Hat, Sun Zoom Spark, and Daddy Mac and the Drunk Tank. What originated as an informal recording effort and duo alongside drummer Sam Donaldson, once of the Dharma Bums, later grew to feature guitarist and singer Eric Johnson, previously of Black Sun Ensemble and Sun Zoom Spark, plus bassist Joe Yearego, formerly with Los Federales.
