Biography
Born in Texas and now based in Brooklyn, singer/songwriter Bret Mosley delivers his material in a classic folk-and-blues vein. On his own he appears with only a lap-style Dobro played through a slide and a stompboard that registers the rhythm of his booted foot. Far from a strict revivalist, he draws on sources that stretch from vintage country and early Delta blues through hip-hop to Beck’s own off-kilter revision of the singer/songwriter role. Although he has been performing since childhood, his official biography lists an earlier string of occupations that includes linebacker, fur trapper, ballet dancer, stockbroker, actor, computer programmer, and yoga teacher. After moving to Brooklyn and establishing himself among the neighborhood’s songwriters, he captured his first album, Light & Blood, live in a Woodstock, New York studio and issued it in late 2007 on the Woodstock Music Works imprint. In addition to those solo shows he also works with a trio of supporting musicians: cellist Trevor Exter, bassist John Trent, and drummer Craig Santiago.
