A moving elegy to painter L.S. Lowry, composed by Michael Coleman, so struck producer Kevin Parrott that the pair briefly formed a recording duo. Their single "Matchstalk Men and Matchstalk Cats and Dogs" unexpectedly topped the U.K. chart in 1978, yet Brian and Michael proved unable to build on that breakthrough with any subsequent success. The St. Winifred's School Choir supplied the vocal backing for the track, a group that would itself reach number one in the U.K. two years later with "There's No-One Quite Like Grandma." Once the partnership with "Brian" dissolved, Coleman resumed his songwriting work and supplied Ken Dodd with the 1981 hit "Hold My Hand." Kevin Parrott died on October 9, 2023.
