Brian Dickinson stands out among the more sought-after pianists working the Toronto jazz circuit, having internalized approaches drawn from a range of modern keyboard masters that include Bill Evans, Keith Jarrett, Herbie Hancock, McCoy Tyner, and Richie Beirach. He entered the world in Guelph, Ontario, in 1961 and launched an early, intensive study of leading contemporary piano figures. The outcome of that concentrated effort is audible in a style whose sources are readily identified, even as Dickinson never settles into an exact likeness of any one of them. A Juno Award recipient, he has partnered across his career with such established jazz artists as Randy Brecker, Dewey Redman, John Abercrombie, Sonny Greenwich, and Jane Bunnett.
