Biography
Although named for a Massachusetts city, the rock group Brighton, MA actually operates from a base in Chicago, Illinois. The moniker stems from the birthplace of frontman Matthew Kerstein, who handles vocals, songwriting, guitar, and keyboards. Kerstein previously belonged to the Chicago ensemble Scotland Yard Gospel Choir, an act that dissolved once it had completed work on a first album in 2003. Brighton, MA essentially continues as a reconfigured lineup drawn from that earlier collective. Loose Tooth Records issued the band’s self-titled debut EP on June 19, 2007.
