Biography
Formed in the early 1980s, the indie rock outfit initially operated under the moniker Heart Attack and blended alternative pop/rock with heavy metal. The group issued several singles along with an EP, four albums, and a single music video once it adopted the name Brighton Rock. Its lineup featured lead vocalist Gerald McGhee, keyboardists Martin Victor and Johnny Rogers, guitarist Greg Fraser, bassist Stevie "Skreebs" Skrebiec, and drummer Mark Cavarzan, while Greg Bioleau augmented the lineup for live dates. Difficulties with the band's label and management brought the project to a close at the start of the 1990s.
Shortly after its launch, Heart Attack became Brighton Rock. The 1986 EP Young, Wild and Free contained the tracks "Can't Wait for the Night," "Assault Attack," "We Came to Rock," "Jack Is Back," and "Change of Heart." The release exceeded expectations and gained traction in Germany, Ireland, and France. In 1987 the band followed with a full-length effort that carried the same title, though it failed to match the EP's performance. A second album, Take a Deep Breath, arrived in 1989, and the final release, Love Machine, appeared in 1991.
