Biography
Brilliant Colors emerged from lead singer Jess Scott’s private home recordings, shaping a raw indie pop style inspired by foundational New Zealand acts such as the Chills and the Bats. The band began performing in its hometown of San Francisco in 2007, featuring original members bassist Michelle Hill and drummer John Garmon. Garmon departed soon afterward on friendly terms, prompting the addition of Diane Anastasio, formerly of Carnal Knowledge, who had recently relocated to San Francisco to work at Maximum Rock’n’Roll. In early 2009 Make-a-Mess Records issued the group’s self-titled four-track 7" EP. Later the same year Captured Tracks released the 7" single “Highly Evolved”/“Takes So Little.” That fall Slumberland Records put out the band’s first full-length album, Introducing. Following the 2010 release of two singles—“Never Mine”/“Kissing’s Easy” on Slumberland and “Walk into the World”/“Bad Vibes” on Make-a-Mess Records—plus a shared side with Girls Names on the Slumberland and Tough Love split featuring “You Win,” Brilliant Colors delivered their second album, Again and Again, during summer 2011.
