Biography
Brix & the Extricated came together in 2014 when several alumni of the post-punk outfit the Fall assembled for a single performance at Manchester's Ruby Lounge. The occasion marked the launch of Steve Hanley's memoir The Big Midweek: Life Inside the Fall. Vocalist and guitarist Brix Smith Start teamed with former bandmates Steve Trafford on guitar, Steve Hanley on bass, and Paul Hanley on drums, while Irish guitarist Jason Brown rounded out the lineup. Their set consisted of numbers originally penned for the Fall. Although the musicians shared a volatile past inside one of rock's most notoriously fractious groups and approached the prospect of revisiting that catalog with some unease, the quintet spent 2014 and 2015 on the road before turning their attention to fresh songs. Their first collection of new material, the album Part 2, appeared in 2017.
