Greg Anderson participated in the short-lived hardcore group Brotherhood before rising to prominence in the doom and drone spheres. The band formed in 1987 when Anderson joined forces with singer John White, bassist Ken Hagel, and drummer Victor Hart, forging a straight-edge hardcore style modeled on Minor Threat and directing its energy at social concerns while supporting acts including Youth of Today and Angry Samoans. In the course of its brief run, Brotherhood released only a few recordings—the 1988 demo Brotherhood of Friends plus the 7" singles No Tolerance for Ignorance and Words Run...As Thick as Blood—before splitting up in 1989.
