Biography
Childhood friends Luke Oakson, performing as Luke Sick, and Jason Slater launched the rap-rock outfit Brougham in Palo Alto, CA. Oakson, who had previously belonged to the hip-hop outfit Sacred Hoop, initially contacted Slater to produce a record for that group, yet the two instead began developing original material together. Slater and Oakson handled the bulk of writing and recording for Brougham’s 2000 debut album Le Cock Sportif on their own, though they brought in additional musicians for studio support; afterward a separate touring lineup was formed to accompany Oakson on the road, since Slater chose to tour with Snake River Conspiracy.
