Josh Bruce, who records as Bru-C, built his profile as a Nottingham bassline producer and MC by leveraging strategic partnerships and online-driven campaigns within the U.K. bass community. Born in Long Eaton, Derbyshire, in 1991, he experimented with music from a young age yet only discovered his distinctive direction once he relocated to Nottinghamshire. His early affiliation with CruCast yielded the albums Original Sounds in 2019 and Smile in 2020. To promote Smile, he staged an impromptu set from an ice-cream van in Nottingham City Centre immediately after England’s match against Denmark at the 2020 European Football Championship, drawing an audience of roughly four thousand supporters. Local officials disapproved of the unsanctioned event, resulting in his detention; although no charges followed, the episode generated wider public interest. In 2021 he moved to Def Jam, which issued his next project, Family Only, in 2024.
