Biography
Born and raised in Oklahoma, rootsy singer/songwriter Bruce Henderson launched his performing career while studying at college in Austin, TX. He relocated to New York City in 1983 and assembled the band Hearts and Minds, which delivered an album via A&M Records. After the group disbanded, Henderson completed the nonfiction volume Waiting, issued by Plume/Penguin. He resurfaced in music by joining the High Plains Drifters with guitarists G.E. Smith (best known for his stint as the musical director of the Saturday Night Live band) and Andy York (another Hearts and Minds alumnus and also a longtime member of John Mellencamp’s backing unit). Henderson stepped out alone and made his debut in 1997 with The Wheels Roll on Omad/Paradigm. He finished a follow-up titled Beyond the Pale, yet a testicular cancer diagnosis halted its scheduled release while he regained strength for touring. Once able to perform again, he learned his label had folded. Henderson subsequently assigned the project to Valley Entertainment, which issued it in June 2000.
