Biography
Buick MacKane took its name from a T. Rex song, courtesy of its originators Alejandro Escovedo, bassist David Fairchild, and drummer Glenn Benavides, who merged roots-oriented rock with the rawer 1970s styles of garage rock and glam. In 1989, the informal four-piece came together after Benavides, an ex-member of Doctors Mob, joined forces with Fairchild to ask Escovedo for a jam session, shortly following the dissolution of his group the True Believers. Once they parted ways with initial guitarist Thierry LeCoz, the remaining three recruited Joe Eddy Hines, a fixture at Austin nightclubs, and started laying down tracks in 1993 that eventually came out under the title The Pawn Shop Years. The album finally saw release through Rykodisc in 1997.
