Biography
Though the group’s own MySpace biography asserts with certainty that Burn in Silence fits neither the metalcore nor the emo category, the six musicians from Brighton, Massachusetts, actually embody both. Located in the student-dense Boston neighborhood that sits directly between sprawling Boston University and the athletics-focused, Jesuit-run Boston College, the band fuses introspective indie-rock leanings with aggressive post-hardcore drive. Their sound achieves this equilibrium through vocals that shift mid-track between vulnerable melodic delivery and harsh, forceful shouts, while a dedicated keyboardist and sampler adds atmospheric layers to the otherwise direct guitar-based arrangements.
Established in 2004, Burn in Silence comprises vocalist and lyricist Chris Harrell, lead guitarist and chief songwriter Mike Casavant, rhythm guitarist Alan Glassman, keyboardist Ben Schulkin, bassist Max Lavelle, and drummer Darren Cesca. After issuing the self-released demo EP Pure as Your First Day in 2005, the group secured a deal with Prosthetic Records, an independent label. The band’s first full-length album, Angel Maker, appeared during the summer of 2006.
