Biography
Hailing from Philadelphia, power pop group Buzz Zeemer is fronted by vocalist Frank Brown, a veteran presence on the local scene, and draws on guitarist Tom Conwell’s frequently chiming, jangly style. The band issued its album Delusions of Grandeur in 1999. That release moved between polished, Burt Bacharach-tinged pop on the track “Mystery” and brisk, ringing power pop on “Red Balloon,” while also presenting an exuberant, stirring take on Allen Toussaint’s “There Should Be a Book.” Buzz Zeemer’s main draw remains the richly melodic, hook-laden compositions of its leader Frank Brown. Although the band has earned apt parallels to the forceful melodies of early Elvis Costello and Joe Jackson, its sound steers clear of mere revivalism.
