New Jersey punk outfit Buzzkill originated under the name Butthead upon forming in 1990, only to adopt their current moniker in 1992 when MTV's Beavis & Butthead surged in popularity. Coincidentally, the network introduced an unrelated hard-rock/grunge program titled Buzzkill during the mid-'90s. The group, a trio featuring vocalist/guitarist Bruce Steinert Jr., bassist Dan Roorda, and drummer Mike Polli, issued their debut self-titled album on Antidote Records in 1993 and assembled their earlier Butthead recordings onto a separate album the following year. Extensive touring in 1995 placed them alongside such alternative and underground acts as Helmet, Urge Overkill, Barkmarket, and Buzzoven, while their first single for Alternative Tentacles, Meat Is Dinner, also appeared that year. The full-length Up followed in 1996, with House Of Bad Touch arriving in 1999.
