Biography
After departing Modern English in 1991, C. Gibbs assumed leadership of the Morning Glories and guided the band through the rest of the decade. As that outfit dissolved in the late 1990s, he backed avant garde industrial rocker Foetus, yet his underlying goal remained the launch of a solo career. He first tracked 29 Over Me under the C. Gibbs Review name before switching to the C. Gibbs Group shortly before its Atlantic Records release. The album secured opening dates alongside John Mellencamp and Son Volt and prompted a temporary move to Los Angeles. Sincerity’s Ground appeared in 1999 as his final solo statement for several years while he served as bassist for Dave Vanian’s Phantom Chords and performed with comedian Margaret Cho. By 2002 he had relocated to New York City, where he issued his third album, The Pinkermen Set.
