Call of the Void

Emerging from Denver, Colorado, the ferocious metalcore outfit Call of the Void fuses sludge-punk, crust, and grind sensibilities into a punishing sound that occupies the scorched middle ground separating Pig Destroyer, Converge, Napalm Death, and Mastodon. The group formed in 2011 when vocalist Steve Vanica joined forces with bass player Alex Pace, guitarists Gabe Morales and Patrick Alberts, and drummer Gordon Koch; after sharpening their abilities on the regional circuit, they signed with Relapse Records and launched tours behind their first studio album, Dragged Down a Dead End Path, in 2013. Andy Patterson, whose credits include Subrosa, Eagle Twin, and Gaza, recorded and mixed the follow-up, Ageless, which surfaced in early 2015.
