Biography
Born in Philadelphia, R&B vocalist Candice Anitra channeled her deep passion for the performing arts by relocating in 2000 to enroll at N.Y.U.’s Tisch School of the Arts. Her studies there in acting and singing were complemented by band performances, songwriting for stage productions, and regular live appearances. Toward the close of 2008 she issued her debut recording, the EP Easier, shaped by the production efforts of Force Theory. Bark Then Bite appeared the next year, helmed by Joel Hamilton—the engineer on Easier—and built around instrumentation supplied by Dub Trio. The project highlighted her probing yet magnetic vocal approach, pairing poetic lyrics with energetic, electronics-infused arrangements that moved past the conventions of standard R&B.
