Biography
Candleman emerged as a four-piece alternative rock band through an unplanned sequence of events rather than any formal arrangement. Bevan Gould and David Warby, who had first encountered each other in a different group and had already started exchanging musical ideas, enlisted bassist Neil Munroe and drummer Glen Andrews to play three songs together at Gould's 21st birthday party. The intense sonic result, shaped in part by Peter Gabriel and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, led the musicians to commit immediately to functioning as a single unit. Sarepta Records moved quickly to sign them, and the album Thru These Eyes appeared soon after. The band maintains a schedule of live dates throughout South Africa.
