Biography
Three fifth-graders sharing a keen interest in music launched Care Bears on Fire in 2005. The following year the Brooklyn natives Sophie, Lucio, and Isadora, known onstage as Izzy, drew regional notice when their straightforward punk approach, softened by pop hooks, landed a three-page New York Magazine profile. Inspired by early punk, the group adopted stage names, avoided their given ones, and booked repeated local gigs throughout Park Slope. They delivered the debut EP Confuse Me in 2006 and the album I Stole Your Animal the next year. The band appeared at London’s Underage Festival and at SXSW in 2008, yet Lucio exited that April. A fill-in bassist covered duties for several months until Manhattan native Jena joined permanently in October, turning Care Bears on Fire into an all-girl trio. A subsequent deal with S-Curve Records yielded the July 2009 release of the second album Get Over It!
