Carl Allen

Carl Allen, a fine drummer whose collaborations have included Freddie Hubbard, Jackie McLean, George Coleman, Art Farmer, and Benny Green, blended effortlessly into Message for the group’s late-’80s recording of The Art of Blakey. He later helmed his own dates on Timeless, Atlantic, and Evidence while also producing albums for other leading “Young Lions.” In 2007 he teamed with bassist Rodney Whitaker on the soul-inflected People Get Ready.
