Listen on Coda
Carlos channels an inventive twist on raw punk through its intense, melody-driven sound, where surging guitar lines propel the group across the most raucous edges of pop. The musicians first crossed paths as students in Millbrae, California. Richard Scramaglia on guitar and vocals, drummer Doug Lippi, and bassist Alan Moon formed the lineup and launched the band in 1990. Early performances centered on San Francisco venues, where three years of EPs and singles were later gathered into the debut album Coriander Salamander, issued by Switchtrack Records in 1994. The following year the group joined Headhunter Records, which put out the second full-length Amy Armageddon in 1996 through Cargo Records distribution. After an extended stretch of road work, Lippi exited and Dee Galway took over on drums. The personnel shift prompted a move to Amazing Grease Records, the imprint run by Pavement’s Scott Kannberg, and guitarist Richard Marshall came aboard in 2000 to complete a quartet. Their fourth album, Devil’s Slide, reached stores in 2001 and remains their most recent release.
