Rhythm and blues performer Carlos Morgan first sang before congregations at the Church of God of Prophecy in Canada, his country of birth. During his teenage years he joined several R&B ensembles and later stepped out as a solo act. Across his career he has worked as a vocalist, composer, session musician, and record producer. Following the release of his initial album in the 1990s, he received multiple honors, among them the Canadian Urban Music Award for Best R&B Male Vocalist, the Juno Award for Best R&B/Soul Recording, and the MuchMusic Video Award for Best R&B Video.

Morgan absorbed the sounds of Nat "King" Cole and Stevie Wonder while growing up. His listening habits ranged widely across gospel, jazz, pop, rock, and classical styles. Among the R&B groups he performed with early on were Blue Zone and Lypstick.

Morgan finished his debut album, Feelin' Alright, in 1996. The project appeared on D-Tone Records, an imprint he established alongside two associates. The independent release moved briskly and drew attention from critics as well as Universal Music Canada, which soon reissued Feelin' Alright on its own roster. Among the album’s songs are “Give It to Me,” “Baby C'mon,” “Whatcha Got,” “Forever for You,” and “April Flower.”

After stepping away from solo projects for several years, Morgan returned to the studio in 2001 to begin work on his second album, We're Gonna Make It.
