Biography
Scott assembled her first punk rock group at age twelve in Portland, Oregon, only to be expelled from it upon turning fourteen after the other members declared they ‘weren’t going to play like the Clash’. She later enrolled in a drama program at Boston University but was removed from the course once she objected to the restricted scope of the female parts offered to her. Opting instead to perform across Europe as a solo singer-songwriter, she was promptly arrested and held in a London jail for lacking the required work permit. Her independent recordings, which echoed the style of Patti Smith or Elvis Costello, soon persuaded her that a full band was essential to convey her material effectively. She therefore enlisted Justin McCarthy on bass, Patrick Julius on drums, and Greg Cartwright on lead guitar. The resulting outfit, known as the Creeps, cut its first album in three weeks with Thom Panunzio, whose prior credits included work with U2, at the helm.
