Biography
Cassie Ramone entered the world as Cassie Grzymkowski in New Jersey yet built her career as a Brooklyn-based songwriter, adopting that stage name precisely when she helped launch the noise pop trio Vivian Girls in 2007. Serving as the group’s guitarist and vocalist, she supplied much of its songwriting and remained a steady presence across three albums plus nonstop international touring that lasted until the band’s 2014 dissolution. In the two years preceding that announcement, activity had already slowed noticeably. Ramone had formed the Babies alongside Woods member Kevin Morby, while bassist Katy Goodman pursued multiple side efforts, most prominently her solo outlet La Sera. The trio staged a few final shows early in 2014, yet Ramone’s first solo effort, The Time Has Come, was already taking shape. That record assembled a set of spare, home-recorded indie folk pieces, several of which included bass contributions from Ariel Pink. Loglady issued the album in fall 2014. Late the following year she returned with an unexpected Christmas collection on Burger Records; titled Christmas in Reno, the set delivered a reverb-drenched, lo-fi interpretation of ten holiday standards.
