Biography
Formed during the mid-2000s, the New York City quartet Cause Co-Motion! came together around vocalist/guitarist Arno, lead guitarist Alex, drummer Jock, and bassist Liam. Their high-energy, lo-fi pop carried clear traces of post-punk yet stayed firmly contemporary, drawing from the Pastels, Television Personalities, and Wire without becoming beholden to those precedents. Early on the group issued a succession of 7-inch singles through boutique imprints such as Can't Cope!, Cape Shok, and What's Your Rupture, while also contributing tracks to various compilations, most prominently the What's Your Rupture label sampler that placed them next to Comet Gain and Love Is All. In 2008 the band aligned with Slumberland for the I Lie Awake EP; shortly afterward the same label issued the anthology It's Time!, a fourteen-song overview that offered a strong entry point to their catalog.
