CC Cowboys originated as a Norwegian rock band in Fredrikstad during 1989, built around Magnus Grønneberg on vocals and guitar, Jørn Christensen on guitar, Per Vestaby on bass, and Agne Saether on drums. Earlier participants from the 1990s included Anders Grønneberg on bass, Trond Berg on guitar, and Jon Terje Rovedal on accordion. The group reached its commercial height in the early to mid-1990s, only to disband toward the decade’s close, before staging a 2003 comeback that restored it to prominent positions on the Norwegian charts.

Their entrance came in 1990 with the Top Five single “Harry” and the accompanying album Blodsbrødre, also a Top Five hit. The next album, Rock’n Roll Ryttere, and its lead single “Barnehjemmet Johnny Johnny” repeated that level of success by again entering the Top Five. Albums released afterward—Tigergutt in 1992 with the single “People in Motion,” and Persille & Panser in 1994 with “Når Du Sover”—secured Top Ten placements, though without matching the earlier peaks. Himmeltitter in 1996 proved comparatively modest, barely reaching the Top 20, after which the band dissolved.

Before withdrawing, CC Cowboys issued the chart-topping best-of collection Ekko: CC Cowboys’ Beste in 1998. Years later the reconfigured lineup, now featuring Christensen and Vestaby, delivered the well-received 2003 album Lyst, which returned the group to the Top Ten. Subsequent releases Evig Liv in 2006, På Svalbard Uten Strøm in 2007, and Morgen & Kveld in 2009 likewise performed strongly inside the Top Ten. Later hit singles included “Kom Igen” and “Kanskje Du Behøver Noen.”
