Cecil Brooks III

As a modern percussionist recognized for his forceful and intricately layered rhythmic approach, Cecil Brooks III has performed across the New York scene alongside figures such as Greg Osby, Geri Allen and Lonnie Plaxico. His initial outing heading a group appeared on the Muse imprint in 1989. Subsequent leader dates followed, among them Hangin' with Smooth in 1990, Neck Peckin' Jammie three years later and Our Mister Brooks in 2000, alongside sideman appearances in both hard bop and bebop contexts. Early 2001 brought the release of Live at Sweet Basil, recorded in an intimate setting.
