Celso Piña, the Mexican accordionist known as El Rebelde del Acordeón (the Accordion Rebel), began performing traditional music in the company of his brothers Eduardo, Rubén, and Enrique. Exposure to Aníbal Velasquez and Alfredo Gutiérrez during the early 1980s inspired a move into tropical sounds, which led the siblings to establish the ensemble Celso Piña y su Ronda Bogotá. To mark the twentieth anniversary of his career in 2001, Piña joined forces with local rock bands including Café Tacuba, Santa Sabina, and Control Machete, among others, resulting in the recording of Barrio Bravo, produced by Alfonso Herrera and Julián Villarreal.
