Biography
Originating in Toronto, Century Palm took shape as a Canadian indie rock ensemble whose brooding, dance-friendly synth pop draws clear inspiration from post-punk acts Joy Division and Wire as well as new wave groups like Devo. Core members Andrew Payne on guitar, synthesizer, and voice, Paul Lawton on bass, synthesizer, and voice, and Jesse Locke on drums and drum machine—all veterans or current participants in assorted regional indie projects—launched the band together. Their self-titled EP appeared in 2014 with Alex Hamlyn contributing guitar and Sarah Ford on synths. A live split cassette with Feel Alright titled East Coast Tour surfaced in September 2016, documenting an August performance in Halifax. Expanding to include Penny Clark on synthesizer and voice, the quartet issued its first full-length album, Meet You, through Deranged Records in March 2017.
