Biography
César Robles, a Mexican pop singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist native to Veracruz, grew up immersed in family sing-alongs that filled his entire childhood. While attending middle and high school he started crafting original lyrics, a habit that repeatedly drew teacher reprimands for failing to apply his time "wisely." As a teenager he began recording demos with serious intent and sent them to the Mexican reality talent competition La Academia on Azteca. Although the first two seasons passed him by, he secured a spot in season three and finished third overall. He later joined the band La Posta, where he encountered Juan Carlos Calderón, who would serve as his mentor, producer, and steadfast supporter. Turning solo, Robles secured a contract with Sony Music. In 2013 he shared the stage with Carlos Rivera at Teatro Metropólitan for a duet of "La Quiero a Morir" that drew an enormous crowd reaction. Roughly a decade after his La Academia appearance, he issued his first solo album, titled 1, in February 2017. Its opening singles—the buoyant pop track "Una Canción Que Te Enamore" and the ballad "No Te Vayas"—both climbed the streaming and video rankings, while critics throughout Mexico responded favorably to the project.
