Biography
Holding a doctorate in philosophy and theology, Gussago produced a modest quantity of sacred vocal pieces while drawing primary inspiration from instrumental traditions associated with Brescia. Serving as maestro di cappella at St Maria delle Grazie, he issued a sonata in 1608 scored for both single-choir and double-choir forces whose textures are marked by homophonic writing. Ornamentation surfaces infrequently throughout his output, and the liturgical works are overwhelmingly conceived for double choir.
