In 1978 sopranos Verônica Sabino, Rosa Lobo, and Lídia Sacharny joined contraltos Maúcha Adnet, Paula Martins, and Márcia Ruiz, tenors Dalmo Medeiros, Chico Adnet, and Ronald Valle, and basses Paulinho Malaguti and Paulo Roberto to found Céu da Boca. Self-composed vocal arrangements, humorous stage attire and antics, and the members’ exceptional musicianship quickly became the ensemble’s defining traits. High-profile artists such as Chico Buarque, Edu Lobo, Joyce, César Camargo Mariano, and Wagner Tiso enlisted the group for support. An independent album titled Céu da Boca appeared in 1981, followed the next year by Baratotal on Polygram. The Association of Art Critics of São Paulo (APCA) named the singers Best Vocal Group in 1983, yet several members left for solo work in 1984 and the group dissolved.
