Emerging from Sheffield, England, in the mid-'80s, the avant-funk group Chakk infused industrial touches yet surfaced after the first wave of post-punk trailblazers such as 23 Skidoo and A Certain Ratio, whose innovations the band mirrored and absorbed. Their sole album, 10 Days in an Elevator, appeared via MCA in 1986. Despite early predictions of major success, the release fell short and the ensemble disbanded. Mark Brydon converted the label advance into a personal studio, moved into production—including Krush's "House Arrest"—and later secured notable recognition beyond Chakk as half of the electronic duo Moloko. Dee Boyle entered Longpigs, while Slim Lister and Jake Harries aligned with Heights of Abraham.
