Biography
Charles Baton, a composer from France, earned renown as a virtuoso on the vielle, commonly called the hurdy-gurdy. Multiple suites for that instrument flowed from his pen, and he may also have produced a treatise tracing its origins, though that attribution remains contested because the text could have arisen through joint effort with Terrason.
