Born in Hartford, Connecticut, Charles Dube, whose full name at birth was Charles Lewis Dube, has filled multiple roles across his musical path. Between 1982 and 1984 he handled drums in Chronic Disorder, moved to Jack Tragic & The Unfortunates for the next two years, then continued on the same instrument with the Dispossessed through 1988; from that point until 1992 he switched to keyboards behind Leigh Gregory of the Dispossessed along with Miles From Nowhere and the Mellow Drunks while also contributing guitar to one Dispossessed session. Working the console as an experienced engineer, Dube has recorded Gregory, Dar Williams, Alison Krauss & Union Station, the Nields, Huey Lewis and Bruce Hornsby, in addition to handling sessions at Connecticut stations WWUH, WSPR and WDRC. His own Long Walks Off A Short Pier appeared in 1999, and he tracked another album slated for later release during the stretch from 1999 to 2002.

Dube first entered a studio in 1983, appearing on the Jack Tragic release Coming Down The Mountain, which contained the track "I Kill Hippies," a tongue-in-joel tune later cited by Spin magazine as "one of the top 100 punk singles of all time."
