Charles K. Harris, an American songwriter, earned lasting fame above all for “After the Ball,” his most successful composition. He founded a music-publishing firm that operated in both Milwaukee and New York, then served as secretary of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers from 1924 to 1930. From 1914 until 1924 he also held the post of director at ASCAP.
