Charli D'Amelio first built an enormous social media audience through dance clips before expanding into television, motion pictures, and recorded music. Her video account, begun in 2019, quickly generated prominent celebrity interactions such as sharing the stage with JLo, along with several unscripted series that preceded her initial single, the 2022 release "if you ask me to." During the same period she also claimed the top spot on the long-running competition Dancing with the Stars.
Born Charli Grace D'Amelio in May 2004 in Norwalk, Connecticut, she is the daughter of Marc D'Amelio, a onetime state senate candidate, and Heidi D'Amelio, a photographer and former model. She took up dance in early childhood and continued competitively for roughly a decade until she opened her own social media video account in the middle of 2019. By year's end she had been cast as the voice of Tinker in the animated feature StarDog and TurboCat, and Bebe Rexha brought her onstage at Barclays Center in New York City while opening for the Jonas Brothers.
