Biography
The guitar work of Charlie Hunter and the vocals of Lucy Woodward form a partnership that highlights their shared passion for blues, soul, and funk while emphasizing the dynamic exchange between his striking technique and her powerful delivery. Their 2019 release Music! Music! Music! preserves the energy and optimism that define the pair's stage shows.
They came together in February 2018 after Woodward encountered Hunter at Miami's GroundUP festival, introduced by shared connections within Snarky Puppy. Although their combined résumés include performances alongside D'Angelo, Rod Stewart, Celine Dion, and Pink Martini, the two directed their joint efforts toward a longstanding appreciation for the blues. They soon began touring with reimagined versions of songs they both admired, drawing from Blind Willie Johnson, Terence Trent D'Arby, and Nina Simone. Those performances supplied the core material for the eleven-track debut album Music! Music! Music!, which appeared in mid-2019 and prompted widespread concert dates across the U.S. and Europe.
