Biography
Although bearing the name Charlie Manhattan, the artist maintains his residence in San Francisco while drawing stylistic influence from West Coast rappers such as 2Pac, Xzibit, and E-40. Charles Williams serves as his given name, selected after the 1989 movie Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan; despite enduring difficult early years in which his father remained incarcerated from before his birth, he gravitated toward hip-hop at an early stage. Numerous locally-distributed underground mixtapes featured his contributions prior to the June 2007 release of his solo debut, The Manhattan Project.
