The Christian rock outfit Chasing Furies operates as a sibling enterprise, consisting of vocalists Sarah Meeker, who also pens the material, and Rachel, alongside their elder brother Joshua, who contributes songwriting, vocals, and guitar work. Because their father served as a music minister, the three had already shared stages extensively before contemplating a professional path. Their initial venture beyond familial and church settings occurred during a modest 1996 engagement at a neighborhood coffeehouse, an outing that proved sufficiently encouraging for the trio to pursue wider opportunities in the music industry.

The following year Chasing Furies appeared at the Christian Artists Seminar in Colorado, where their audacious hard-rock presentation—marked by vivid hair hues and numerous piercings—commanded notice equal to the music itself. Although the visual style suggested a Black Sabbath performance rather than gospel material, the band instead supplied Christian rock anchored in direct lyrical references to God and faith. Their strong showing earned a second-place finish in the seminar’s band competition.

Sarah and Joshua Meeker each navigated turbulent adolescent periods involving struggles with drugs, alcohol, and defiance, experiences that allowed them to steer their younger sister Rachel away from similar pitfalls. The siblings aim to extend that protective influence to other teenagers through their songs.

Chasing Furies issued their first full-length project, With Abandon, on the Sparrow Records imprint in 1999. Among its tracks, “Wait Forever,” “Fair Night’s Longing,” and “Throw Me” showcase uplifting themes delivered via fervent vocals and distorted guitar lines, drawing widespread critical acclaim.
