Biography
Emerging in 1995, the Östersund-based Swedish death metal outfit Chastisement features vocalist Johan Klitkou alongside guitarists Marcus Edvardsson and Tommy Larsson, bassist Nicklas Linnes, and drummer Nils Fjellström. Drawing from compatriots including Entombed, Edge of Sanity, and God Macabre, the group cultivated a technically precise, largely melody-free brutality that surfaced first on a demo tape in 1997, followed by the arrival of their debut full-length ...But Lost We Are in 1999. The follow-up album Alleviation of Pain arrived in 2002; mirroring the earlier release, it circulated exclusively via the band’s own site until Rage of Achilles Records issued it officially in 2004.
