Biography
Named for a deceptively small 12-ounce vessel that mimics the appearance of a full pint, the Boston quartet Cheater Pint crafts punchy punk rock packed with melodic hooks, witty lyrics, and occasional flashes of vulnerability. True to their moniker, the group harbors a deep appreciation for beer. Fronted by vocalist and guitarist Lauran O'Neal, the band first appeared in 2000 and immediately issued its opening release, the three-track EP Kinger. Two more projects arrived in 2003—the EP Three for Nothing and the standalone single “Three Sizes Too Small.” Guitarist Mark Simon and O’Neal welcomed bassist Meaghan McLaughlin, formerly of Chroma, the following year. Drummer Dan Weddle completed the lineup in 2005, coinciding with the release of the single “Ma, I’m Tryin’.” In 2007 the track “Control Freak” earned local radio rotation in Boston, prompting the band to deliver its debut long-player, Dark Side of the Pint. Independent stations throughout the city and nationwide embraced the album, which climbed to the number-two slot on the regional chart compiled by Boston music magazine The Noise.
