Cheena pulls its spark from the shimmering grit of 1970s New York streets and the gritty cowpunk pulse that defined the West Coast in the following decade. The lineup unites Walter Behl and Eugene Terry from Crazy Spirit, Keegan Dakkar of Anasazi, Pharmakon’s Margaret Chardiet, and Logan Montana from Hank Wood & the Hammerheads. In 2014 the musicians formed the band expressly to step outside their established groups. They also swapped their customary instruments, placing Chardiet on guitar rather than electronics, Dakkar on bass, Terry behind the drums, and Montana on slide guitar. Taking cues from Lou Reed through Kiss to the Gun Club, Cheena first surfaced with the five-song cassette All the Cheena Money Can Buy on Lo-Fi Lo-Life, then issued a self-titled 7" on Sacred Bones in April 2015. Their debut album Spend the Night With... followed in August 2016.
