Biography
Under the leadership of vocalist and guitarist Shane Faubert, the Cheepskates figured prominently in the East Coast garage rock resurgence of the 1980s. Their original four-piece configuration issued two albums that leaned heavily into the sound’s retro aspects. Faubert sought a fresh approach by 1987, trimming the lineup to a trio that produced the power pop albums Remember and It Wings Above. Following a live album and a covers EP, the band reconvened in the studio for a final project. The resulting Confessional, issued in 1990, left both listeners and the musicians unsatisfied and prompted the group’s dissolution. A collection of Residents songs appeared on record in 1992 after the breakup, while Faubert maintained the same stylistic direction across his solo work.
