Biography
Established in 2001, the bluegrass sextet Cherryholmes draws from two generations of the Nashville-via-Arizona family bearing that name: father Jere on bass and vocals, mother Sandy Lee on mandolin and vocals, daughters Cia Leigh on banjo, guitar and vocals plus Molly Kate on fiddle and vocals, and sons B.J. on fiddle and vocals alongside Skip on guitar, mandolin and vocals. Three early releases appeared on the group’s own imprint—Still a Little Rough Around the Edges in 2001, Dressed for Success in 2002 and Bluegrass Vagabonds in 2003—while three later projects came out on Ricky Skaggs’ Skaggs Family label: the self-titled Cherryholmes from 2004, which earned a Grammy nomination in 2006, followed by Cherryholmes II: Black and White in 2007 and Cherryholmes III: Don't Believe in 2008. Cherryholmes IV: Common Threads arrived in 2010. Their high-voltage stage presentations regularly incorporate Irish step dancing, old-time claw-hammer banjo numbers and yodeling. The ensemble appears frequently at the Grand Ole Opry.
