Biography
Deriving their moniker from a figure in the movie The Goonies, Sweden's Chester Copperpot launched their career in 1990 and cycled through several vocalists across the following three years. The trio stabilized its roster in 1993 once guitarist Fredrik Karlsson stepped into the vocal role, with bassist Niklas Aldén and drummer Christian Sjögreen completing the rhythm section. Embracing the sounds of '80s new wave and power pop, the group channeled a spirit devoted purely to enjoyment. Dolores Records issued the EP Short Cuts and Poems and Short Stories in 1996, prompting parallels to Weezer and Superchunk, after which the three-piece secured a deal with Pop Kid Records. Their 7" EP Bittersweet Tunes arrived in 1998.
