Cheyenne Goss, a singer and songwriter from the small Illinois community of Newton, moved to Nashville, Tennessee at age 18 in pursuit of a country music career. An appearance on the fifteenth season of American Idol in 2016 failed to launch her, yet her breakthrough arrived the next year via the debut EP It Is Written and its single "Done."

As the daughter of a DJ, she developed an early passion for music. After finishing high school she enrolled at Nashville’s Belmont University to study the music business, which soon sparked an interest in performing. Though her bid for the 2016 reboot of American Idol reached Hollywood without earning a place in the final rounds, she began posting vocal clips on YouTube. A cover of Sam Hunt’s “Drinkin’ Too Much” drew notable attention there, leading Goss to record the independent EP It Is Written in 2017.
