Biography
Cheyenne Marie Mize, a singer-songwriter rooted in Louisville, Kentucky, produces intelligent, atmospheric, soul-stirring indie folk that recalls the approach of Alela Diane, Bon Iver, and Cat Power. She grew up in a household filled with music, picked up the violin while still in high school, completed music studies at the University of Louisville, and went on to practice as a music therapist. One notable partnership came with Will Oldham, known as Bonnie "Prince" Billy, on an EP devoted to folk songs from the late 1800s. That same year she joined Joan Shelley and Julia Purcel in Maiden Radio for a self-titled album of covers drawn from mostly unknown composers. Her first full-length release, Before Lately, appeared in October 2010, followed in 2011 by the digital single "I Called You Back" and the January-issued EP We Don't Need. After signing with Yep Roc in 2012, she delivered her initial album for the label, Among the Grey, in early summer 2013.
